Tao of Now – Video & Text Review

Many spiritual books written today are meant to be read cover to cover.  Sometimes a nice, simple, book of quotes is good to randomly open to a particular page.

This is good for coffee tables, a table next to your favorite easy chair, or for the basket next to the toilet.

One such book is called the The Tao of Now: Daily Wisdom from Mystics, Sages, Poets, and Saints compiled and edited with commentary by Josh Baran.

As you might guess, many of the teachings and quotes have to do with present moment awareness.  One nice aspect of a book like this is reading one page and just letting the power of contemplation take over.  There is no feeling that you need to finish a chapter.

The list of teachers and writers is impressive, and consists of a who’s who in spirituality – and from a variety of backgrounds.  On one page you may have Dogen and then next Henry David Thoreau.  Then the Dalai Lama is opposite T.S. Eliot.  There are also some offerings from television and movies.

Baran’s commentary after some of the quotes also serves to enhance the message.  The book has substance and doesn’t fill a page with one tiny quote.  Although it isn’t set up as a calendar, there are more pages than days of the year.  For me, I just enjoyed opening a page here or there.  I doubt that I actually read every page.

It is nice to have a book that isn’t just read and stuck back up on the bookshelf.  The owner of Tao of Now has the opportunity to read over and over again, and also share with houseguests that choose to pick it up and read a little.

This book isn’t likely to shock you into awakening, but who knows which of these quotes may resonate with some deeper part of your being?  Enlightenmentdudes.com gives the Tao of Now a 7 out of 10 on our Infinity Scale.   We think it is a book worth owning.
